In keeping with the theme of our latest fly swap, I want to post a few thoughts on this book.  Gary really was ahead of his time, in fly fishing, fly tying and book writing.  I keep this book next to  my fly tying stuff for quick information.  While I find the book for the most part, to be overwhelming for all it's Latin , unless you are rally into that, you can just ignore it and hunt down the basics.  It seems I reach for the book constantly upon returning from most fishing trips to search caddis flies I thought I might have seen on the water.

Anyway,  I recommend this book to all fly tyers.

Totally agree. The book is way more complicated and full of useless information than need be. With that being said his caddis patterns are some of absolute best I have ever fished. Shame his patterns are harder and harder to find in shops. Perhaps someday someone (with a good editor) will mine the good info from the book and package it in a more user friendly text.
