Spring turkey season is around the corner here in Indiana! I've been thinking of trying to get my first tom but I don't have the right shotgun. I'll have to talk to my uncle about borrowing one of his shotguns. Put some pictures up of the Toms you have gotten in the past along with your favorite calls.

Good luck and stay SAFE! Any calls that you can't be in the field without?

Probably my favorite is a cheap small box call that produces a loud sound I call a "jake cluck"-has worked many times when yelps and normal clucks won't. I usually keep a mouth call in also and sometimes try to sound like 2 hens together.

Took my first with my Mom's old Mossberg bolt action 20 gauge. Second with an old single shot 12 gauge with a repaired stock. Finally went upscale with a used Remington 870 Express. I use a crow call to locate gobbling turkeys and when I settle down to call I use a box call. When they come in close I use a mouth call or a box call designed to attach to the gun and be operated with a string. My buddy has a couple of decoys and sometimes it is better to just shut up and let the decoys bring them in. Not much more fun than turkey hunting. Enjoy.

Season is one week old here in eastern VA. Went out Friday am with light drizzle. It stopped raining about 8:45 or so. Heard one gobbler early 6:30ish , then nothing. Called every 10-15 minutes. Was checking email on my phone about 9:30, looked up and he was right there by my decoy. Never heard anything. Now I can concenrate on fishing and golf.

Nice! I love the gun, what ammo did you use and what distance did you shoot?

That's awesome! My season starts on Wednesday and I'll be out early in the morning. I'll be using a Browning Citori White Lightning O/U, the only problem I see is having a single bead. We'll see how it shoots when I pattern it on Tuesday!

Good Luck to everyone else!

Well turkey season is over and I didn't get a single bird! I could hear 2 to 4 Toms gobbling every morning I went, but I could never get eyes on them. Spent 50-60 hours in the field and only saw 4 Hens and 1 Tom at 200+ yards. I did manage to talk with a couple of the Hens when I mimicked what they said. Had beautiful weather but boy were the ticks bad. The last day I made it out I wiped 2 different ticks out from beneath both of my ears! Better luck in the Fall or next Spring!

I did manage to get a decent bird-probably the only dumb bird in the woods but I thoroughly enjoyed the hunt.
