Had to take care of some business at my lakehouse on Lake Wallenpaupack in PA today. After I got done I went down to the water to check things out. It wasn't noticeable from my house up the block, but on the water the wind was blowing hard plus light rain. This made the point unfishable so I went to a small cove, only to find it was still pretty windy. Had a 1/32 oz jighead and a 2" curly tail grub tied to 3# Sunline Troutist Area Meister and my TFO Signature 6' fly/spin rod. It was hard getting any distance in the wind with the light jigs. Right at the moment I literally said to myself "nothing is going to be biting in this kind of weather" there was a strong take, rod bent, drag peeled and the water's surface boiled. About 10 second into the fight the line snapped! Shucks, that was probably the one fish in range. Thought about leaving but tied on another jig and curly tail grub and boy am I glad I did. After loosening my drag two clicks I went on to land four smallmouth bass, all in the 15" +/- range. Talk about fighters. Largemouth just can't compare. I gotta say, my UL spinning skills are improving quickly. Using tippet thin line that's accurately rated is much different than using mono with a similar advertised rating.
