I used my 3-wt fly rod with an ultralight spinning reel and two black and hot pink crappie jigs about 18" apart (all they wanted was black and hot pink) at the bridge pilings of a local lake today and had a ball. The first fish I caught was a 10-12# smallmouth buffalo which I foul-hooked in the tail. Wow, what a fight on an ultralight rod like that!! I took a pic on my cell phone but can't transfer it to Photobucket, sorry. Then the big, post-spawn crappie mamas came out to play and made the day even better. I caught 2 - 14", 4 - 13", 3 - 12" and 2 -10", as well as one lone cat. In the pic below the 10"ers are the 2nd and 4th from the right, to give perspective of the size of the others. I caught them 2-5' off the bottom in 6-14' fow.

That pic really does put it into perspective. The 14 inchers are so much bigger! Nice work.
What weight jigs were you using?

Checking my PMs for the dinner invitation, which it seems you have not yet sent. No need to bother. I'll be over later.

What weight jigs were you using? They were Roadrunner jigs, but I don't know what size.

I just caught my personal best crappie today at 14.5". But it was also the only one I caught so you're in no danger of me catching up to you.

Whoa mama! THose are lovely fish. Would dearly love to catch a few of those and some big bluegills too. I imagine a 14 inch crappie gives a bit of a fight on a 3wt.

Man do I need a good fishing fix...

Looks like you got a nice dinner there. All you need is some beer, fried potatoes and cole slaw.
