Had a relaxing day with my wife in a tandem kayak and my daughter in a single on one of the small private lakes in town. Paddle a bit. Float a bit. Fish a bit.
I was using a Quantum (formerly Eagle Claw) 5.0 UL Telecast rod with Stradic CI4+ 1000 reel spooled w. 6# braid and a 4# flouro leader.
Wasn't expecting much from this $20 rod but I wanted a telescopic ultralight so I picked it up via Amazon a few weeks ago and it has been excellent. Have landed many bass, sunfish and trout with it.
Fishing a 1/8 oz. jighead with a curly tail grub today had already produced 2# and 2.5# largemouths with two others in the same range throwing the hooks during spectacular jumps.
Things were winding down when I hooked into what felt like a big fish. Fortunately my daughter was alongside and managed to catch the event on video. It turned out to be a 3.01 pounder (digital scale). I'm still smiling.
