For the most part I have a dream job. I’m my own boss, doing wireless consulting for a major NY sports team. Lots of flexibility. Decent money. However working to finish some big projects before the start of the season has been very stressful. 12 hour days the norm plus some 18 hour ones, not to mention the commute into the city.
Finally had a day off on Wednesday but we were in a high wind warning with temps in the mid-forties. Heck with the wind...I was going fishing!
At my local pond the wind was on the nose. Steady in the low twenties and regularly gusting to the forties. More than once it came close to knocking me over. Of course casting UL was not the wisest choice, but hey, it’s what I do.
I slow rolled a curly tail grub on a ball jig hook for a long time with no results. The water was still very cold so slow must be the way. Right?
Not being a complete idiot I decided to move the grub faster. Not burning. Just a moderately slow retrieve with regular jerks and sweeps of the rod. First came a perch and ultimately 3 bass using this method. The last bass was a slob and made it all worth while.
A few more would follow over the next couple days.
The last one is a bit of a cheat. My friend said “long arm it” for the pic. It was a nice fish just not quite as big as it looks.
Here in NJ March was like February and April is acting like March. Things can only improve. Just a matter of how soon. Have had enough of winter.
