Need a reel to handle 2 lb test. Want to try fishing with that weight line. I have never used 2 lb before.
Was mildly kicking around a Pleuger President. Also considering a Bass Pro Micro Lite. It's replacing an old Quantuum Micro, so I was kinda wanting to keep it around that size.
I will entertain other recommendations.
What do y'all think?

I have tore into hundreds of UL reels to see whats inside and how well they are made, if you have the Quantum micro "00", that is a **** good reel, easily surpassing the President, my favorites are; Vintage, Daiwa 500c, Shakespeare 2200, My current favorite in a new reel is Lews LLS50, if you want to spend big bucks, look at a Soare CI4 500s. Keep in mind most labeled 2lb line is not really 2lb line, look at the line diameter, I have found that a .004 or .005 inch line is a good balance between breaking off on a snag and still giving good distance on casting.

If your in to the UL stuff, check out www.finesse-fishing.com Nice Guy and some ultra high UL tackle, pricey but the best. No financial interest .

update.....I have noticed that when using the same lures on the president and the iprimi that I constantly have problems with line twist on the president and none on the iprimi.....could be because of the size of spool ...I dont know for sure.... but the price difference between the two reels is substantial.....iprimi never have to untwist the line......president constantly have to drag behind kayak to remove twist.....$60 vs $180

I always prefer to use an oversized reel. Helps to keep coils to a minimum. Anywhere from a 1500 to 2500 size spool.

Definitely a not made any longer, Shimano Symetre 750FL . It has the basic same size and weight of the tiny Symetre 500FL but with a much larger spool and finer drag. The Vintage Daiwa Silver Series 700C is another example of a much better reel over the 500C. Once again, an over sized spool on an extremely small and lightweight body helps avoid line twists, has a more controllable drag, and ultra fine line doesn't get caught up under the spool and wrap around the drive shaft as readily.

I have used several reels on my CGR 2 wt, but as stated above I like the large arbor reel because it reduces coiling. All my reels I use on the 2 wt are 3/4 size reels; nothing special and they balance well. If your budget minded, I used a cheap graphite reel on my 2 wt and just needed to file down the foot a bit to make it it on the 2 wt. The graphite works too but unfortunately is not a large arbor.

Just an FYI, the Daiwa 700c, the MiniMite, and the MiniSpin are all the same size and share all the same internals, the MiniMite having two bearings and being gold in color.

Yes, I believe you're right, they are a bit larger than the 500. Overall the best reel I have found for 2 or 4 lb test is definitely the Shimano Symetre 750FL. Hard to come by though.

I don't get rid of much. I'll keep it. You never know.
I still may pick up a President or a Shimano along the way.
