"My Best Gill Day" at least since coming to North Texas some 32 years ago.
Caught roughly 30 varying in size from the smallest to the largest pictured below. These were caught this morning on my 2wt CGR with 2WT DT line using a #12 bird nest green nymph. Caught the majority around culverts that line the south side of the lake.

I am excited about this catch; the wall is a new addition (a few years ago) and my hope has been that eventually the presence of the wall's structure would improve the fly fishing, bringing the fish in closer to feed.

Hoping this is not a one off and I'll see thru the summer if these larger gills come into the wall to feed.

Nothing beats good bluegill fishing. I'd sure enjoy a day like this one. Hope you have plenty more. Man I need a bluegill fix, I really do.

Thanks Eric, Paul and TXH2Oman. That 2wt CGR sure puts some extra excitement to gill fishing.

Jim,

Very nice indeed with an impressive Bull Bluegill in the photo! It my area we have had a cold front with rain come through...had to go to a small bead head Midge pattern with short tail landed one or two Bull Bluegill and alot of females that where full of eggs. All were released! Yes...."OH MY GOODNESS" The CGR is an awesome Bluegill Fly Rod.

Thanks for sharing , Enjoy and Be Safe!

I wish we had decent size gills where I live. They look to be a blast on the end of a UL fly rod.

Good fishing there Jim. Nothing like a day of catching bluegill on UL to put a smile on one's face.

Thanks Knotty. Can't wait to get back out to see the larger ones will continue to feed at culverts and along the wall.

Love my 2wt Cgr!! Got it on sale when they were $39.99!! I do upline with Cortland sylke 3wt line on a redington drift 3/4 and it will launch a mile. Been killing at a local lake on bluegill crappie and even a few rainbow trout (stocked).
