Today, my 33 year old son dropped by to say happy father's day around noon, and suggested we go fishing. So, we decided we'd fish across the road in the pool we used to fish from the time he was about 4 years old. The trail has grown in a lot over the years. We grabbed a couple of fly rods and a couple of boxes of flies and we bushwhacked through. We had a pile of fun. Lots of kidding and plenty of fish, including some bass between 12 and 17". It was just like the old days, really. We only live about a mile away from each other and do see each other a lot, but it was nice to just spontaneously grab the rods and sneak away from the yard work and family responsibilities for an afternoon, and then sit on the back deck and have a whisky. It was like having my little boy back again for a couple of hours, and then my grown up friend all on the same day.

Fantastic Brent! That I bet would be the ultimate Fathers Day for many. I'm glad you two were able to get out, catch some bass, and finish with a whisky. Sounds like a perfect day.

My wife and I were unexpectedly invited to a Fathers day luncheon with a group of church members including my daughter's family, my youngest was asked by my wife if he wanted to fish in the pond on the property which we often visit on Saturdays when the opportunity arises. He replied with a reounding yes. It so happened that I had my two 2 weights in the car from the previous day when my son and and I stopped by a local pond and had some fun with Blue Gills. Anyway he opted for my CGR and I my TFO Professional. He landed two nice Redear and I a 1plus pound lmb and a nice Redear. This in 100 deg. hot PM. A happy Father's day.

Linecaster: Funny how some of our best fishing memories are made from trips that involved no planning or expectations. Sounds like you had a great day.

Jim the CGR 2 weight was loaded with my special WF line and both my son and grandson enjoyed getting the line out with little effort.

Glad you mentioned Eric, reminds me I've got some special WF I need to fish on the 2 wt. I've been fishing the 3 wt 3 forks this week and the contrast of the two rods
will make those gills feel like whales.

Thanks, Joe. We also found out that, after 10 years of trying and giving up, he and his wife are expecting. So, kinda hard to beat all that. My son has a few acres upstream from me on the same stream, with a very nice beaver pond on it. So the cycle may just repeat itself. My other grandkids live in northern Alberta, so it will be nice to have a little one nearby.
