When I read info or watch videos about micro spey (OPST Commando, etc.) it always seems to be presented for people who already know something about spey and its related terminology.

So here’s the question, what is the anchor? Is it the fly (2), where leader meets sink or float tip (1), somewhere in between?

Also, am I correct in understanding that the anchor should be placed such that your casting stroke is inline with it?

Knotty my understanding of the anchor is the amount of line, tip, tippet that is still in the water as you begin the forward stroke, however after placing your line and you begin the backward sweep you are beginning to load the rod you sustain that load with the amount of line that remains in the water on the sustained load of the forward cast. My 2 cents

Thanks Eric. And the cast should be over the anchor?

Knotty with the Skagit more over the anchor than with Spey. The sweep over to the side then coming over toward the vertical, this is what some don't like because it causes the line to twist almost like a semi circular motion.

Now I must practice what I said. I have subscribed to OPST and today Ed Ward published another video using a 200gr head on a 9'9" 3 weight. Casting on a smallish stream with a popper and streamer together fishing for smallmouth bass. Love the concept.

In this video, Tom Larimer confirms that the cast is made over the anchor, describing it as part of the “180° Rule.”
