Hello everyone, I started fishing again and have built back a nice collection of UL fly rods.
The two I would like to review today are the TXL (my all-time favorite UL rod series) and its older brother the SLT.
As you can see the components are the same, just scaled down for the TXL.
The TXL was the last UL rod to have Nickel Silver
hardware.
Both the SLT and TXL have Hopkins and Holloway strippers and snake guides.
The SLT has a size 10 stripper and the TXL a size 6. The snake guides are almost the same.
The SLT starts at 3 and goes to 2/0 and the TXL starts at 2 and goes to 2/0.
One thing the SLT has over the TXL is looks. In my opinion it is the best looking rod Sage has ever made.
I hung a 2oz. bag of fishing weights off the tip of both rods to show where the rod likes to shut down.
You can see the TXL likes to shut down in the top third. Its the 3wt I always wished the TXL 3710 would have been.
The TXL 3710 felt like more of a 2 1/2 wt. The TXL 370 is also not as picky about line weight as the 0,1, or 2wt TXL.
It did better with dt than wf and even did ok down to dt1f. This is my new truck rod.
The SLT likes to shut down about mid rod. This is just one of those magic Sage rods.
At 25 feet or less the SLT 373 cast a 1wt DT1f just as good as a 3wt line.
I think I'm going to dig out my old dt0f and see how well it does with that.
This will most likely become my new backpack rod.
