Today I became curious about what that Eclectic Angler might be up to nowadays and checked out his website. What caught my eye were the words “3D printed fly reels”. It seems that one can buy such a reel or even download (for free) the plans and print it themselves (if they have a 3D printer or access to one), which not everyone has, at least not in my neighborhood.
So, let’s try this link:
http://www.eclecticangler.com/3d-printed-fly-reels/or alternately, just check out the site
http://www.eclecticangler.com and click on the words “3D Printed Fly Reels”. While it may be difficult to vouch for the quality, at 1.6 ounces for a 3” reel (or is it a line-holder) it is definitely within the Ultralight realm. And, according to the video, it is more than a mere line holder. Anybody interested?
