What are your most treasured UL rods?

My favourite rods so far are my Orvis superfine 7'9" 2 wt. ( the one with the burgundy color blank ) and
my Dennis Franke 8'9" 2 wt. Para.

I seem to get along well with the feel of parabolic rods. I like rods that flex.

Mine is a 7 ft, Native Custom, 3 wt but lately I've been unable to find a line on that rod that satisfies me.
A four wt line gets close but alittle too heavy....need to find a 31/2 wt line maybe.
It's a glass rod, not as soft as the CGRs through.

I have a stack of two weight fly lines. It's been a mission finding the ones that feel right on the various rods.

Interesting and at least I am not alone in this delimma. When the Native Custom was my only fly rod I didn't have this
problem. Now that I've fished the "perfect matches" on other fly rods my expectations are high.
.BTW, Cabela's has their cheapest fly line on sale for
$15 and I think they have a 2 wt . I just picked up a 10 wt in an attempt to make an UL spey line. I got the fly line,
a spool of 30 lb backing and a leader for $15.

I hear the Rio Trout LT is on the heavy side although not cheap.

Perhaps when you get into lower power UL rods a few grains here or there makes quite a change in feel.

Then of course one must look at the average distance the cast is too.

Seems nothing is perfect but l am always tinkering with my outfits for ultimate presentation to spooky browns.

Right now m two favorite ul rods are the TFO 8’ 3wt BVK. Previously had 3 over the past couple of years. And my current TFO 7’3” 2wt Finesse. For some reason I always gravitate back to the 3 wt BVK. Working for Orvis now, so I’m going to be changing things up a bit. Looking at getter no a 8’3” Orvis 3wt Recon, and a 7’6” Orvis 1wt Superfine Carbon. Will let you know once I get them if my opinion changes, lol

Good to hear you've landed what sounds like a dream job, working for Orvis.

It is Jim, no one shooting at me, moarter and rocket attacks, getting chunked on by prisoners, spit on etc.... can’t beat a warehouse maintenance job that pays well and has great benefits. I’ve remodeled restrooms, worked on fork lifts, battery charging systems rearranged office furniture, conveyor systems, shelving units. I work with great people and a tuall enjoy going to work again, hasn’t been that way since oh 2003 or so when the Army started getting political.

Right now it's my Elkhorn Traveler 7' 2wt. But I am having a 7'6" 3wt bamboo being built as we speak, so in about 5 months, it may change.

For conventional spinning gear, the Abu Garcia 7'6" UL is a really fun rod.
