Apologize, if this question has been asked previously, unfortunately I am admitted fly rod junkie, (its a awful addiction problem, with no known cure to modern science) love to collect vintage fly glass rods, have taken in a lot of unwanted, homeless fly rods over the past years, (mostly in the mid weight fly rod range), some from estate sales...some from old dear friends that have long gone past...have special meanings, fish them to keep their spirits alive and rekindle some fond memories... bring them back to life...matching/casting with modern day fly line and such... I have acquired a couple of UL fly rods, (TFO 2wt- 3wt) since moving to Texas, been restricted fishing to mostly smaller rivers, the UL fly rod really shines here. Question to the group? what kind of UL collection do you have in your fly rod arsenal? (Don't get in trouble with your spouse now!!) The fly rod industry has really expanded over the last 10 years; want to get a feel what is good out on the fly rod market from passionate UL fly fishermen.

I have, I believe, over 30 rods in all, but most of my fishing these days is with UL rods. I mostly fish glass, but I do have a few graphite rods. To the best of my recollection at this time, among my UL rods are:

Graphite: Redington Classic Trout 2 wt.
Wright & McGill Generation II S-Curve 2 wt.
G. Loomis Streamdance Metolius 3 weight
Cabela's Three Forks 3 wt.
W.W. Grigg 6' 3 weight

Fiberglass: Redington Butterstick 2 wt.
Steffen 8' 3 wt.
Maxcatch 3 wt.
Axisco Airrite Stream 6 pc. 3 wt.
CGR 6'3" 2 wt.
CGR 5'9" 3 wt.
Mountain Brook 2/3 wt.
Horrocks-Ibbotson Model 1200 Queen Elizabeth 3 wt.
Custom Built 6'6" 2/3 wt. on Taniwha S-glass blank
Old Beech Quiet Loop 2 pc. 3 weight
Bears Den 8 pc. 2/3 weight

Larry's a rod hoe. And don't go camping with him; he'll make you cast every one of them.

"Larry's a rod hoe".

Jim,
I don't think that's the way it's spelled.

I have evolved to UL fly fishing as I've grown older. I grew up fishing heavy glass rods because that was all I could afford and get my hands on at the time. Growing up fly fishing in East Texas in the late 70's and 80's was not very popular and my supplies were limited.

Now I mostly stick to UL:

9' 4 wt Echo (some might argue that this is borderline UL,)
7'6" 3 wt Echo
7'6" 0 wt BDP build

Technically I don't have a 3wt. Rod yet. That's why I am here though.

I have a few...

TXL - 000 and 00wt.
SPL - 0 and 1wt. Really like these and considering selling the TXL's.
CGR - 2wt. Very nice for short work and good value.
LL - 389 3wt. Bought new long ago and has been a favorite until I acquired the lighter weights.

More than I care to admit . Or maybe I should say it would take too long to list them all. Let’s just say 20+ . And waiting for the next two to be delivered this week , a MaxCatch 6’ 2wt. and a Powell 6’6” 3wt. SweetP . It is a sickness . Gillchaser

After lookin all over the Web for an inexpensive 2wt, I have a feeling that I won't get one, as SS Disability leaves no play money.

My Powell 7ft, 6in- 4wt rod is my favorite, I can only imagine how sweet that 6'6" 3wt is :P

pretty simple. i subscribe to the "cover the bases" theory of rod collecting and fishing
I own:
Cabelas three forks 763
Fenwick classic glass 756
Fenwick classic glass 766
Cortland grf 1000 8667
St, Croix Imperial 989

the ul is the three forks.(obviously). with this collection, there are very few fish I cannot try for on the fly.
