I'm sorry Strummer the line I have is not floating but slow sinking and when I stripped it off the real it has sections of green for camouflage purposes, I did initially believe it was floating but it has been many years ago that I used it. At the time I purchased it Airflo were advertising the clear lines with a mono core. Sorry to have misled you.

While looking for some heavy sinking line, I came across this. It's an Airflow intermediate, so it would only float if one applied line dressing. But it costs 10 Pounds, coming from France. Let's see if the link works. They go down as low as 2 weight. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Airflo-interme ... 2813803265

Does this help? I've broken 2 saltwater Monic lines. I loved the way they cast, but...

Just get rid of the fly line entirely and cast a mono rig. It's what all the cool kids are doing...

I've caught a ton of Idaho fish on my mono rig . I have, and have caught fish on it. When it comes to fly fishing I am far from a traditionalist and will try anything. I've played with using scent on flies, I have plenty of "trash" flies in my box, I use lots of tube flies, I've got a box full of different indicators, and I will sometimes even rig flies with trebles (aside: http://bursell.dk/artikler/saltwater/l-rig.pdf). Most of my gear is direct no-name Chinese imports. I've even done a decent bit of euro style nymphing, including long leaders that are a reasonable approximation of a "mono rig". That said, fly casting brings me joy, so I prefer to cast a fly line if I have a fly rod in my hand. Maybe that means I catch less fish, it's ok. Personal preference! Do what makes you happy.
