It's food for thought. Is reel weight important? Issues arise: Cost can be a factor; line capacity is another; drag or no drag. The list can go on and on.
Please post comments, as I am very interested in seeing what develops. But first the numbers...

Reel weight is VERY important on a lighter, shorter rod. I have found that on a 7.5' rod, a reel of four ounces is sufficient, while on anything shorter, you want a LIGHT reel.
