Hi Les,
Each of those rods is excellent so I had to think a bit. Casting the Diamondglass is like taking the prettiest girl to the dance, she drives a zippy sports car, knows how to handle it, plus she is a nice gal. For me it is a lot like the FF70 Fenwick 5 wt. It does lots of things well and really is a cover-all-bases fly rod. I make accurate casts with it. IF I had to choose at threat of death if I did not choose, then I would take the Diamondglass over the others. I'd like to have a 5 wt., but man I have six 5 wt. rods already!

- the McFarland makes me pay attention and work - lots of fun for sure, a wonderful rod
- the Quiet Loop is dazzlingly gorgeous and a pleasure to fish with, stunning worksmanship
- the SLT is versatile, beautiful and powerful, casts great into a breeze

Paul, didn't they discontinue the Diamondglass rods? If so, I appreciate you telling me about a rod I can't buy :-) Just kidding! I am thankful for the review!

Is the SLT as sweet a rod as I think it is?

I need to add a 1wt to the line-up as well as a longer 2wt, and a couple more 3wt's. I know some folks don't consider 3wt's to be ultralight anymore, but I still do. They were the ultralights well before sub 1wt rods became available.

All of these rods do a very good job of my type of ultralight fishing.

Echo 7'6 3wt - this was my entry into light (ultralight) line fishing a couple of years ago. It feels to me to be the equivilant to the 7'6 3wt TFO Pro. I have it teamed up with a new version of the Martin Mohawk River casting a WF4. It's light, accurate and my favorite UL rod....so far.

Cabela's Traditional 6'6 2wt. Way fast for me - in fact I like it with a WF 4.

Coming soon.........Dan Craft 6'10 1wt. I just purchased the Buckeye Burl blanks to turn the reel seat. The other components will be ordered after I turn the seat and see the colors I am working with. I'm thinking seriously of using a J A Forbes Avon as my ultimate UL outfit.

I got caught up in the thinking that anything less than 3 wt is a waste of time and you need a 5 or 6 wt or even heavier to be able to land fish of any size. But when I think back, this past season I barely touched my Fenwick FF806....lightly fished my Fenwick FF755, and concentrated on using my Lami 7'6 4wt and especially the Echo. I have a feeling that the 1WT will see a lot of fishing time this Spring.

I agree Les. I'm not casting heavy flys for stripers.....or fishing for steelhead or slinging into salt...... Like most people here (it seems like) I'm fishing mostly small rivers and creeks and casting to the grass edges on large ponds and smaller lakes for bass.

I miss Texas.....it was 12 degrees here yesterday morning!
