The new Orvis catalog is out, introducing their Helios Ion rods--essentially Helios technology applied to the Superfines. The smallest, so far, is a 6ft 4pc 2wt, at 7/8ths ounce. For the well-heeled, this might be a neat little creek rod ($750!!!). I believe a 1wt will follow later in the year. The 3, 4, and 5 weights are all 1 1/8-1 1/4 ounce, with slip ring/cork seats. -CC

They look nice, and are a bit stiffer according to the flex index than I would like for a short 2wt. The price though is disgusting.

Disgusting is a good word for it, considering that they have American Tackle titanium strippers (about 1/3 the cost of Fuji--just as nice, btw, for you rodbuilders) and inexpensive aluminum ring seats, while the Superfines are over $200 cheaper and have Bellinger's priciest seat ($150) and Fuji Cermet strippers, which are almost as expensive as agate. It's all in the marketing, I suppose. I wouldn't turn one down if someone wanted to give it to me, though! -CC

I won't buy a new American made fly rod due to the cost. It is awful...and to be honest...a good fly line is supposed to cost 1/10 of what a rod costs...and at the price of Sharkskin...how much are rods going to cost?
