Just wondering how most of you guys attach your leader to the line? I'm using the loop to loop connection but thought the nail knot would be a cleaner set up for the ul set ups.

The nail knot is a cleaner setup, however, most fly lines only have a 6" tip section, so you can't really attach too many leaders to that. I use a loop to loop setup personally, but I do not like the braided loops. I take a piece of 15# red amnesia and nail knot it to the line and tie a perfection loop in the end of it. Then I attach my furled leader to that, and tippet to that.

I use the braided loops if the line doesn't have a factory welded loop.

On my light lines, I have had braids come free, not off, just loose. I love to have a loop to loop, and prefer the Amnesia.

I tried braided loops about 10-15 years ago when Cortland started including them with some of their lines. My first experience wasn't good so I went back to what I knew.
But this week I got the 3 wt Wonderline from the trade that J and I did, and he had a braided loop on the line so that's how I fished it. I was very pleased with it. There seemed to be a little less "hinging" than my 1 wt Wonderline with the welded loop, and I think the loop itself is smaller than the welded loop so it wasn't getting hung up in the tip-top the way the welded one sometimes does. I think I'll give these things another chance next time I get a line without the loop.

Jerry, the loop on the line I sent you came that way from Orvis.

I didn't know they ever put a braided loop on a line. This one has a mono whip finish at the back end of the braided loop too. Doesn't look like a production finish. Strange.

Cabela's carries it, as does almost any local fly shop. It is not expensive, and one spool of it will be enough for your whole life.
