I was wondering if anyone knows how smooth the click pawl drag is on the JAF Magnesium. Also, if anyone has one, how much backing will the reel hold with a WF1F on it, and how heavy is the reel at that capacity? Thanks for taking the time to answer some of my questions.

He or Richard will know. Richard has the 255MG Ryobi, and they are darn near identical.

I will have to weigh a reel loaded. 2.2 ounces empty. Would hold a lot of backing with any WF line. It will hold an entire DT4-5-6 line with some backing. It has a very smooth drag. At $75 or less, a good buy. Just don't drop it. Don

Is the drag on the Magnesium light enough for 2# tippet? If not, can the spring be tuned?

it is a fine reel, sounds great, and takes a lot of line and backing for its size. I don't think it needs the spring tuned. I fished one on a 1 wt for three years and it was okay by me. Probably only 3 oz. with line and backing, maybe a trifle more.

3.0 ounces at the Post Office. About half the spool is backing with a WF1F. Don

I put about 90 yards of 20# PINK backing on it with my yellow Orvis WF1F, and I could have gone to 100-110 yards, but that is IT. The spool IMO does not hold nearly as much as JAF claims. Also, the foot is stamped Made in Japan, which has me wanting a Ryobi 255Mg to compare to.

Here are a few pictures of my JAF Magnesium.

Here is the reel with some pink backing, which you can see and the yellow WF1F Orvis Silver Label line.

Thanks!
