I have a 2 wt Sage LightLine and it's a blast to fish with! But... I can't help wondering how a Sage TXL 0 wt would compare. My LL is 7'9" and weighs 2 1/4 oz. The 0 wt TXL is 7'10" and weighs 1 15/16 oz. Very close.

Has anyone here fished both these rods, or fished the 0 wt TXL and some other 2 wt that might be comparable to the LL?

I hate to buy a TXL blank and build it up only to find that it's not *that* much different than the 2 wt. On the other hand, I can't help thinking that it would be an even bigger blast than my 2 wt.

Thanks for any insight you can offer!

Jerry

The TXL is a whole lot different. It is an extra fast rod which helps its casting properties. The fly line weights are only 26 grains different, 80 vs 54. The 0wt fly rod will feel a lot lighter with a balanced reel! Check it out!

Thanks for the reply! You mention one of the things that concerns me. My 2 wt LL is also a fast action. It's surprising because I have a 6'9" 4 wt LL and it's WAY slower than the 2wt, and the 5 wt LL that I built for a friend is a medium action as well. This 2 wt reminds me of my 5 wt RPL--pretty fast.

A balanced TXL 0 wt setup would weigh about the same as my 4wt LL which is a 1 3/4 oz rod that is balanced nicely with an Orvis BBS1 reel. What I would really like to do is fish a 0 wt and see how a little bluegill feels on it Image

According to the CCS data base, the Sage TXL 0wt has an Action Angle of 62 which makes the rod a mid flex or medium action.

Oh quit that stuff...HAHA...the rod is marketed as having an Extra Fast action, granted, that is when casting a 54 grain line, often under VERY short casts, which most gill fishing is more than a 10' cast away...

I've seen it described as extra fast by one outfit, and medium by another. The CCS numbers don't lie though, It's really a mid flex.
