My fly fishing tutor gave me a tying vice the other day, so now it seems tying my own is in the future, since most of my fishing is local water & Blue gill is my fave to fish to catch, figured thats what I should learn to tie for.

But I'm green to all things tying, I need to know what patterns, hooks (brands, sizes), materials, tools...anything else I'm forgetting thats needed for BG flies.

Thanks in advance & any info will be helpful.

***Oh yeah, any pics of what your tying would be cool, just to see what they look like***)

Youtube has a wealth of fly tying instruction short videos. Do a web search for the particular fly you want to tie plus youtube and more than likely you're find it. Good luck!

Hey Jed,

I'm new to this site and new to fly tying too. Sorry if I'm a little late to post... May I suggest Carter's Rubber Legged Dragon (RDL)? It's a killer pattern here in GA, and was developed for the big bluegill at Callaway Gardens. Linecaster's link above shows a good way to tie it. (Ihaven't figured out how to post pics yet)
