Went to the land fill to get rid of a truck load of moving boxes and sorts. Decided to head a little farther up the road to the New River by the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. Water was clear and flowing at a nice pace. Decided to wet wade a little and see what I could come up with. Couple panfish like this one, couple small mouth, and a rock bass. All on a trout magnet soft body and crawdad soft body, glued to a 1/80oz jig head with a size 8 hook. Exactly 5.6 miles from the house. The river is wide, pushing 200+ yards. Tough with a 2 or 4wt rod, but it can be done. Next outing is going to be a native trout stream, just have to find it.

200+ yards wide! I suspect you're going to get very good at double hauled, long distance, UL casting.

Sure did Aaron! Fished this morning, and worked on my shed and work bench this afternoon. Started raining about an hour ago. Trying to get back into making knives again, sold my forge to a buddy there in TX. All my other tools are at the father-in-laws until the rain stops. Still waiting on the phone call to go in to work, just waiting on my background check to get back. So I was thinking about hitting up a native trout stream up tomorrow. I hate the waiting game, lol.

That or pick me up a kayak or canoe Knotty. Not sure how deep it is in some spots, but I wet waded about 1/3 of the way out into it and may have seen 2 1/2'.

Mike, I think the first fish is an orange-spotted sunfish, unusual in Texas but maybe not over there.

Don't know about New River, but I've fished the Rappahannocki and Potomac in VA, both very wide, and in normal flow could wade across the river for the most part.
