I haven't been on here in some time but finally took my new 0wt out to the local creek. I ended up with 3 fish in but only used the gopro for the first. There are some huge fish in this creek and figured I'd just intentionally break them off if hooked. The three I landed were all carbon copies about 13" or so wild rainbows from Putah creek.

The rod/reel is a 5'-8" 0wt from RPL Flyrods throwing a #20 midge. I was surprised at just how well this rod casted an indicator with a little bit of lead. I threw dries for awhile and also did some highsticking. A longer rod would have helped keep the line off the water for better drifts but all in all I was really pleased with the little rod. This rod put a ton of fun back into the little fish.

What a beautiful trout. Can only imagine how much fun that was on a 0 wt.

Nice fish, beautiful. Would be a good catch on any size rod; can't even imagine what a 0 wt is like with a nice fish like that.

Gorgeous. And I totally agree with your comment about ultralight rods putting fun back into little fish.

I've had an Orvis Superfine 9ft 3 wt for a little over 25 years which is my go to rod for this creek. As light as it is, I can still overpower a little 13 inch rainbow. This little RDP 0 wt bends down to the cork and the fish made several decent runs. Landing them was certainly a challenge.

So true. It’s more about the fight than the size of the fish.
