Blew the dust off the Forecast 2 weight. This poor thing is still in working condition, but shows some battle scars.

Like that Christmas morning I took a tumble on some rocks and...

Every rod I've build has some sort of blemish. This one isn't hard to spot.
Image

See, the old Cabelas rod driers had bases that were too light. The rod had to be PERFECTLY centered in the drying chuck, or it would cause the stand to "walk".

See that stuff on the cradle? That's what ended up getting spun around the wrap.

I just chuckled, threw some finish on it, and made sure it wasn't going to happen again. I've since replaced the bases with 2x4's and have had no problems since.

So, I fished the canal down the road. Action was slow until I tied on a briminator. I have replicated the results, and can now confidently say tilapia like that fly.

The bite slowed, so I headed to the ponds. Landed a few bluegill, this was the biggest.

Not sure what's up with the bass lately. Have a trip scheduled for tomorrow morning. Hoping one or two will show.

That's why I don't build rods. With me, anything can and will happen at any given point in time. Call me Murphy.

The fish looked good though. I wish we had bluegill that big here. Those guys are a good time when the bite is on and you have a full flexing 1 or 2 wt rod.

The fish don't care what the rod looks like or what your casts look like, all they care about is that you throw something near them that looks like food.
