Long drives make me sleepy, so I see now that you are just making sure you stay awake. That is good sound thinking (or rationalization). Almost none of my commutes while I was still working led me near any good fishing. Heck, it looks like even on your way to and from work you are getting in more fishing than I am. Need to convince my wife that we should move 300 miles south. Guess I should be glad I don't live any further north than I do. (I really don't like winter).
