On the third Sunday of March I took my CGR to the smallest of all the ponds I fish, just hoping that maybe some bluegills were warming up. This pond is very shallow and usually thick w. algae and weeds but this day it was almost crystal clear. With almost no weeds, you could just look right into the water and search for fish but none were to be seen. So, I cast my Briminator mid-pond hoping they were bunched up in the only deep spot. After a few casts I got a hit. Expected a gill but it was a beautiful rainbow! This fish had survived heat and other anglers since last spring, when the town stocked it for a kid’s fishing derby. Amazing. The ground on one side of the pond seeps, so I suspect cool spring water allowed it to survive. Truly a surprise catch at a time when fishing is closed on all state stocked waters.
