This morning I had the opportunity to fish a small park impoundment here in Laredo with my 1wt Max Catch fly rod. Using a yellow triangle foam bug tied on a size 18 nymph hook, the green sunfish and Mexican tetras were more than cooperative to wear out my little fly. Got a bit sporty account the struggling fish attracted the attention of several large water turtles of various species. Had to get the catch out of the water as quickly as possible before one of the hungry turtles could make a try for the fish. Even the caught fish would be pecked at by members of its own species, pretty tough crowd! Getting out of my away from home terminal lodging and to be able to fish is a sincere treat even if the quarry is a bit on the small side. The Blue Collar Fly Fishing website has an attachment titled "Fly Fish Anywhere", what great inspiration to try the available sites you have to see what happens. The other half of this simple fun has been tying assorted patterns to specifically target the inhabitants of this body of water.
