I built mounts for a ~250 to 1 gear reduction motor to put on my wrapping board and put a timer in it. The last thing I do to finish a rod is glue on the butt cap. This leaves the end butt section open for an old epoxy brush handel taped to snugly fit inside and be driven by my motor that I put a Jacobs chuck on. Rollers for the rod were also needed so I built them too

When you're ready for the chuck portion, here's what I recently came up with. I went to my Home Depot and in the toilet parts section, found two similar black rubber parts, around $3 each. The photos show a quick idea with one of the two. The cut-out hole I created was sloppy but it worked well. The rubber is thick enough that it holds the completed reel seat solidly. I just need to mount the motor in the wood stand in a more rigid fashion, it wobbles just a bit. The aluminum shaft coupler was less than $4 on ebay. The new motor is about 12-15 rpm, much better for my style of applying thread finish than the original 6rpm motor.

I may change the design to have the motor mounted on the outside of the stand, the coupler running through the stand. and stain new uprights a nice color with satin varnish.

I use chicken rotary motor for a grill. I use a piece of tubing with a chuck glued to the end that fits into the motor. I cut a small piece off the chicken skewer part that fits into the tubing. I glued two blocks on the tubing. I use rubber bands and hair ties to hold the blank pieces in place. I can do two rods at a time. Cheap and easy. 30 rods in and still works great.

Not sure how to post images. Do you have to use photobucket?
