Heres a Ijuin Yomogi rod I just finished up. Spent 2 months this winter on it. The blank comes from Japan, its a slow action fiberglass 7' 3wt that flexes deep into the cork. I used THIC light wire guides and tiptop, a down locking curly maple reel seat, hand turned cork cigar grip, LYI silk and 6 coats of Man O War spar varnish to finish it off. Paired up with a vintage skeleton and rio gold, c'mon spring!!

Nice wood in the reel seat. The vintage reel looks right on this rod for some reason.

I think I'll use varnish on my next build. I liked it on a test section of a broken rod.

From Kazutomo Ijuin in Kagoshima Japan. I've only had it out a couple times, so far I like it very much. Its action is very unique, hard to describe, just feels great. In the fiberglass circles, its regarded as one of the very best rods in its segment on the market today. Really looking forward to putting it through its paces this year.

Thanks, the reel is a vintage JC Higgins I picked up on the big bad auction site. It was brand new in the box still, never fished, and 10 bucks! I cleaned it up, painted the finish you see on it(it was just black) and then coated the whole thing with several coats of automotive clear.

Did you have file out the reel seat? I notice the bore is .375

That is a beautiful rod and reel combination. Someday, if you ever want to sell that as a combo, let me know. Nice job!

I like that one- the green stick, and you got the reel right too! This vintage reel and classic looking rod make a good match.

Strange. I contacted Ijuin and they told me the butt section is .42

Thanks, but after a full season on the water with the Yomogi I think I'll be keeping this one forever :)

Thanks Les,

A lot of time and thinking went into this build to make what I felt was a very visually appealing combo, fortunately the Yomogi fishes just at well as it looks ;)
