I'd like to build a 2 weight over the winter. So far, I can't find much under $80.00 that's around 7 feet. Does anyone have any suggestions?

True 2wt rod blanks (not 3-4wts sold as 2wts) under $80 are rare animals in any length. I'd save about double that and get an Orvis Superfine Carbon 8' 2wt blank. You won't be disappointed. It's a lifetime purchase.

If you don't care to have the tip a little longer that the butt the pacbay 793-2 for me is perfect: you can find the Tradition 2 IM6 model (T2F793 in the catalogue) in 2 pieces, or the Rainforest IM7 (RF2F793) even in 2 pieces (and the prices are even one half of your 80$ target). I cut the butt to make a 6,6" and it's a light #2 who cast without problem even a #1. But I measured ern and AA even if you cut it to make a 7': 2,43 and 69. It means that it's a perfect #2 pretty fast action.
I don't know you, but with so light lines a too slow action means problems if there is even a little wind. More fast action means, for me,more line control even with a little wind and more precision. And if in more heavy rods fast action means "don't feel" the smaller fishes, in so thin and light blanks you feel all fishes since the grip.

The RDP blanks are a good choice for the price point

I have built 3 of Mark's RDP rods. Two 7 1/2' 1wt and a 7' 2wt. All 3 rods served me very well, and are still serving other service members in Honduras, North Carolina, and Colorado. All cast very well with the rated line and over-lining by one. I will not hesitate to purchase and build again when the need arises for a shorter than 10' ul rod.
