about 7" from the tip there is a tiny nick like a pock mark in the blank. Is there anything preventative I can use to fill it?

J. If it is the outer coating, you go put on a tiny drop of permagloss or epoxy to cover the spot and forget about it. If the nick is in the blank itself, you have a real problem as it cannot be fixed. I would attach a tip top and cast the blank with a fly line (you can twist the line loosely around the blank as if it were running through guides ) and see if you can break the rod under load with 30 feet of line outside the tip top. Better to find that out now. Don
