I'm redoing a couple of guides on a rod that i built last year. i used TM Lite. In previous rod strippings, it seemed that once i cut the epoxy and thread on top of the guide foot that the rest of the wrap would peel away from the rod. This time, I had to scrape the circumference of the blank to remove all of the epoxy and wrapping. Is this normal? Admittedly the other rods that i stripped were older rods, so I'm sure the wraps weren't coated with modern epoxies.

That is about what I've found, as well, and I've had similar experiences with other modern epoxies. Some of it may depend on the coating on the rod blank, as well, but I've not done enough to notice if that is a factor.

Thanks. Now I just need to figure out how to get rid of the dull finish on the blank where I had to scrape.

Properly stripped and scraped, the new thread and epoxy should cover the dull area

Warming regular epoxy softens it. Don't know if thread finish does the same thing but maybe it would cause it to give a little. Would warming with a hair dryer do anything to the blank?

Wont hurt a bit, I actually use a regular heat gun to remove it. Within reason though, just to soften it

Wish I had thought of that.
