A rod I built a little while ago and just never posted here. This is the new version Matt is selling with tip-over-butt ferrules (previous one had spigots). Taper is mellowed out from the last version. I'm fishing it like a 3wt and really liking it. Lemke LC14 seat with a homegrown and turned honey mesquite insert. I actually dried this piece in the microwave. Grip turned by me. Snake Brand Universals. YLI Golden Green thread. I'm on the fence on how dark it got. I started out with something much much lighter but for some reason kept reaching for this thread. It's the first color I ever bought and keep trying to find a rod to use it on. First coat was Tru Oil, then epoxy over top of that. Wraps aren't quite as dark and red as they appear here More accurate on the color Harvested mesquite (insert shown on the rod)

I'm in the small-guide camp, except I don't use as small a stripping guide as most glass guys do. I kinda go by the size of the blank too for aesthetics. For this blank diameter, I figured a 9mm works fine but could've used an 8.
1/0 1/0 1/0 1/0 1 2 9mm

1/0 1/0 1/0 1/0 1 2 9mm Thank you . The reason I asked is I have a blank that looks exactly like this one but I have nothing to go by as far as hardware goes . I have already ruined a handle reel seat combo trying to hog it out to fit . I want to stay with a down locking seat but I'm not sure how they work with a regular half wells grip . Any recommendations are deeply appreciated . TIA . Ron

Oh I thought you asked about the guides.
I used a stent for the seat on this rod. But I have drilled out a seat for a similar sized blank, before turning it though. Personally wouldn't try to drill out a finished insert. Can't see that going well. If you have the tools to do that, you likely already have a lathe to turn it yourself.
There's a ton of info on all this that I researched when starting this. I'm a relative beginner.

I recently saw a beautiful little 2 weight made by the same rod builder on another forum. It appears to have been built on a blank from Ye Olde English Fly Shop. It would be really nice if we could see the same definitely UL rod on this forum.
