All, I have a client near the Cabela's store in Ft Worth, so I ventured out today with a two-fold mission: see my client and check out the Bargain Barn. I found the usuasal suspects- returned fly lines, repair kits, older spools, and other not-so-useful items. But in two wooden casks sat a bunch of cordura clad rod cases in various sizes. All were returns from customers- porbably broken rods returned for new ones, but all on sale for $7.99 each. So I grabbed four for my vintage glass rod which amny are in need of cases. Then I thought of you builders who need rod cases especially good ones with zippers and cushioning. If you have a Cabela's nearby go in and grab some. Les

Les, I was at the Ft. Worth store a couple of months ago and saw the tubes. At that time the selection was on the meager side with many of them having broken zippers. I had a list when I went in and found all but one item in the bargain cave. My wife won't let me go in there very often without a chaperone cause I find "to many" great deals. Thanks for the heads up, I may have to sneak by there again.

I LOVE the bargain bin at any Cabela's store.
One word of caution though....I bought a fly line at a Cabela's once - it had been a returned item......the price was really good so I jumped at it......once I spooled it up on the reel I found a huge cut in the line that made it unusable. Unfortunately I stopped at the Cabela's moving from one place to another and returning the item wasn't possible.

David, I would contact Cabela's via phone, because it is my understanding that their return policy is very generous. Russell Husted once told me about having to return some boots or waders, and the staff gave him credit as well as a further discount for his trouble. Great stuff in my book.

If it was a DT line, you can hack the line in half and use the good half, or cut it off at that mark and use the part above and below the cut on two reels.

That's exactly what I did....cut it and used the good 2/3.
