This looks like the right spot for intros. I live near Sacramento but headed out of the state in a few years at retirement. I found this site while researching for a "tiny" fly rod and have been flyfishing for 30+ years.

My ultralight fishing started out in the early 80's with a fenwick 12' noodle rod and a diawa 500c loaded with 2lb test. While going to college at Humboldt state, that was my salmon/steelhead rod on the Mad river. Yes I got spooled a few times but that long rod was very forgiving and worked well enough to land a lot of fish.

I started out flyfishing with a cheapo setup but soon ended up with an Orvis superfine 9' 3wt which I still have. It has been my go to rod for streams such as the Yuba, Pit, Feather and Putah. However, it is just too big for smaller water, and being a 2 piece rod, not very road trip friendly.

I'm a jeep rockcrawler guy and having something small and packable bodes well with the thin creeks of the high Sierra. I've got an RDP 0wt on order and looking forward to sharing.

Robert

Welcome to the forum. I too am an Orvis Superfine owner. I love those rods, though mine is a 4wt. But I'm not complaining!

I always figured one of my dogs would make a chew toy out of mime right around the 24 year mark so I could send it in for a new one but I'm way past that now. Their add used to be a yellow lab with a chewed up fly rod...inside of 25 years, any reason, send it back.

Thanks for the welcomes all. I sliced a couple fingers at work 2 weeks ago, stitches come out tomorrow but at least they were stitchable; barely. Hoping for the Dr. green light in another week or two.
