Good afternoon all,
My name is Nath and I'm from South Wales in the UK. I've been fly fishing for 8 years and have a passion for small stream fishing. My local river is 15-20' at its widest and holds a beautiful collection of wild brownies and grayling. The biggest I've seen (but yet to catch) are approx 11-13", my usual fare are around 4 - 8".
I use a 6'6" Greys rod in 2wt.
I have no idea how to fish nymphs, it's like black magic or voodoo to me. All my fishing is on dries all year. I can usually sniff our a cloud of midges even on the coldest of days, doesn't mean I catch anything, though I usually get a few rises on a size 26 F-fly.

Welcome Nath! The local river sounds exciting with a 2 wt. Are you able to fish the river all year around? Is access to the river free?

Welcome to the site. I have a Greys GS2 I believe. Haven’t used in about 4 or 5 years. I may just break it out for this spring.

I'd be interested to know what patterns you're finding successful for grayling? I've only fished them on this side of the pond. (and only twice) brent

Thanks for the warm welcome.
Fishing on my local river is all year because of the grayling. They are classed as course fish over hear, so the seasons over lap.
It is very hard to find un-adopted stretch of river over here so you have to be a member. Anyone who wants to fish has to have a rod licence which is £60 ($90) a year for non migratory species and £90 ($115) for migratory. Club memberships then vary from the sublime to the ridiculous. One end of my local river is £65 ($97) for the full year on Brown trout and Grayling. The other end is £220 ($280) for the trout season and a further £80 ($100) for the Grayling season and that's all within an 12 mile stretch of river!!
As to what pattern that work I have my best luck on black F-flies, Griffiths Gnats and black spiders. Occassionally when the terrestrials are about I get lucky on them, but on the whole kts those three patterns between size 18 - 26.
