Welcome to the forum. For many years I fished 4 through 6 weight rods. My first 3 weight rod obtained about 25 years ago quickly became one of my favorites. A little over 12 years ago I began the transition to fishing with glass, and do so exclusively at this time, though I still own a few nice graphite rods. Most of my fishing at this time is done with 2 to 4 weight rods. There are a lot of nice glass 2 and 3 weights out there. Since Redington came out with their new Butterstick rod, you can still pick up the original Butterstick at a lower price. I have some very nice rods, but I really enjoy fishing my Cabela's CGR 2 weight that can be had at full retail for about $70. The Redington CT's are hard to beat. I have the 2 weight, but I enjoy my glass rods so much more that I haven't used it in a long time. If you would like to learn more about vintage and current glass rods, check out the Fiberglass Flyrodders forum if you haven't already. You can find a lot of information on ultralight glass there.

Well I don't know what a Char is but if it looks like a fish and hits a fly I like it ! Beautiful water , makes me home sick .

I am also from Minnesota, fish the Driftless further south than you (Preston Area), and love the native char as well!
