First I'd like to say Welcome, and Thank You to all our new members. My name is Jeremy Kurtz, and I've been fishing ultralight fly rods for years now. This forum came to be as a result of UL fly fishing not being represented all that well on the net and on many discussion forums. UL fly rods are condemned by some, and misunderstood as well as misrepresented by others. There are plenty of myths concerning UL fly rods as well.
Yes this is a niche fourm, but it's a place for folks who like to fish light line rods to gather and discuss rods, reels, and light line tactics for both warm water and cold water fish.
So let your friends know we are here, and invite them to join us.
Thank You,
Jeremy

Well, I just came across this from a link in another board. I now see that it has just been formed. Sounds like it can become a good forum as I suspect there are a lot of us ultralighters out there. We need to spread the word on other forums about this place.

Thanks Dave! I hope you will aid in spreading the word. This forum is made for those of us who don't like hearing that you must fish with a 5/6 and still use 5x tippet.

Ladies and Gentlemen; I just discovered this site on another blog and I like it. Just purchased my first 2 wt and caught (and released) my second best trout of the 2008 season with it. Used a size 22 ant, SA 2 weight, T&T Paradigm 8'2" and a Teton reel. I also angle with 3 wts a lot. Gary

I was referred to this site from windy city fishing dot com, I was looking for some locals who could help me out with buying a 2/3 weight reel, and also advice on leaders. I live between Lincoln, Nebraska (Grad School), NYC ( I'm self employed and my advertising company is there), and Chicago where I was born and raised for 28 years before I moved to NYC.

I found this forum yesterday, and did quite a bit of lurking around to get the feel of it to see if it would be something I'd be interested in. I like how it's a forum that is a cliche because it keeps things simple though plentiful. I have joined other forums but I have found that because they are so vast, it can be too much, not that that's a bad thing, it's just not for me. This forum being a specialized forum, UL gear being the main subject, but not with holding in good judgement.
Yes, I believe I will like it here.

Greetings! New to the site. Have been a microfishing person for some time now, as well as tenkara and now ultralight! I love the dynamics of the experience. Much more authentic to me. Am very much a wilderness person, so the connection using ultralight gear is awesome. Thank you!

Have a question . I have 3wt rod. Small reel. Do I need to put backing on it, or just use the 100ft of fly line? Thanks so much!
