Sage TXL-F 2360-4 6' 3 pc. #2/3. Built on the top 3 sections of a Sage TXL-F 000710-4. Rod weighs just under 1 oz. and uses rubber "O" rings for bands, they don't mar and are easily replaced. Bastardized rimless Hardy Flyweight.

Nice combo!

Can you post a few more pics from the construction of this reel?

The Flyweight frame had a broken rim, the rim was removed and a SS wire was installed as a line guide/guard. Not my design or repair but that of Bob Perry (Fly Supplies) . The resulting frameless reel is a significant improvement over the original. Patent Pending :)Image

When I was getting back into the UL game, I bought an old Orvis 7'9" rod. It was sold as a 2 wt, but has no markings left on it and the rod tube marking is unreadable. I guess it is a 2 wt, although sometimes I wonder if it is a 3. I fish it with an Orvis Battenkill I or a Cortland Retro I reel. I have built several homemade shooting heads and like the 80 grain, 12' foot head the best. I've landed untold numbers of panfish and up to a 3 lb. bass with no problems. I'm going to be sorry when it breaks, as it surely will as the bass in my lake get bigger.

I have been trying to build a fly rod(at least 5 foot length) that weighs under an ounce but as yet have never succeeded. I'm impressed!-p-

Does the Circa 8'9" 3wt. need a 3wt. line or can it cast a 2wt. as well? I have a 3wt. SLT that likes a DT1 or 2wt line more than a 3wt.

Well, the Circa is designed as a slightly slower rod, so the 3wt does it just fine. I suppose if you wanted to speed it up a bit, I could throw a 2wt line, but I bought the 3wt with the intent to throw a little heavier fly than my 000wt to 2wt rods will allow.

I have the Sage Circa 3wt in both 7'9" and 8'9", for my casting style I much prefer a WF2F line.
The rod is crisper and will give slightly longer distance easily with a 2wt line.
My impression is the rod was designed with slower fuller flexing action with 3wt lines,,, it comes alive with 2wt.

Regards,
FK

This is Sage TXL #2-7´1" my most enjoyable rod I fish with. Fishing mainly sea Artic char and Brown trouts
Reels are Waterworks purist 1 and Redigton zero, both with WF #3 lines. Made this rod few years back and now thinking of doing another one. Seems to be hard to find the blanks.
