If you've never read it, you have missed out on a great deal of wisdom from the greatest generation.

Not focused on any one facet of the outdoors, just worth every flip of the page.

My Grandmother sent me a copy (1970 or 1972 print?) a couple years ago for Christmas...said it reminded her of Grandpa and me, she was right.

I have not read that book. I will have to pick up a copy to read. Thx for the recommendation. I do have a copy of his book: Use Enough Gun. I enjoy reading old world hunting books.

I just ordered this book from inter-library loan. I am currently reading Jim Casada's Guide to Fly Fishing in the Smokies. He holds this book in very high regard and wrote an introduction for the newest re-print.

A recommendation that I'll be taking seriously. If it can me found I'll own it before the end of the week. I can't wait to get started of my own book.

My first post, be gentle. :-)

My dad died when I was 12, lost my fishing & hunting buddy. A couple of years later I picked up this book and read it cover to cover over and over. I remember the part about frying up eggs "with edges like fine Belgian lace". Remember the bird hunting. Ruark was a great author.

Well I'm 68 and I think it's time to get another copy.

Welcome Scrubs48 to the forum and sorry about your lose; even though it's been years these things seem like yesterday.

Welcome. That is a truly fine book. Thanks for the reminder that I need to get another copy myself.

One of my all time favorites. Gave a copy to my grandson with an understanding he would do the same for his.

One memorable observation was "Old men, boys, and dogs smell bad."
