Since I've always been that one guy who fished for Trout I understand making various trout leaders for dries and nymphing but what is a good leader for Bass and Bream that can turn over well in windy weather on a 3wt?

Lots of opinions on this.

Windy conditions and bass flies on a 3-weight don't mix too well.

That said, your best bet is generally a tapered leader that ends in something fairly heavy (sized to the fly and conditions) and of short length. Long and/or thin leaders will be harder to turn over, especially with big flies on light fly line.

I don't usually bass fish on a 3-weight (at least not specifically targeting them), but I'd keep the leader short (6 feet).

Bream are similar, but you can certainly go lighter on tippet if you want.

Often I just use a 6-8 foot long piece of 6 or 8 or 10 pound mono and go catch plenty of fish with it.

I use a 5' furled leader with a couple feet of clear blue stren. That's the best wind combo I've found. It was good enough for the 11 incher in my avatar.

I use a level leader like Cliff, 8 to 12 Lb mono usually Maxima Chameleon, 5 to 8 ft long.... Longer if your going deeper. I know some older fly fishermen that go up to 16 feet leaders when going deep for bluegill during the dead of summer in NE Indiana. They only had floating fly lines.. my avatar is a 24" LMB caught with a stealth bomber and a level leader as mentioned.. That's with an Orvis 3 wt superfine...

Thanks guys, tied a couple shorter ones up that seem to work great. Also, I ordered a set of Airflo 5' Poly Leaders in a couple sinking varieties to help get the flies down where needed
