Anyone have any experience with these rifles? http://www.zastava-arms.rs/en/civilianp ... -precisionYesterday at the range I finally decided to retire my .22 Savage 6 semi-auto due to reliability issues. I cannot begin to calculate how many rounds have been put through this 50 year old gun; it had seen pretty heavy use when I bought it out of a classmate's locker in the halls at high school in '67 (wow, hard to believe those days actually existed). And I've certainly gotten my $20 worth out of it. but its time to replace it. Not looking for a showpiece or a 'defence' weapon; just something for pest control and bunny hunting and the occasional grouse decapitation. Buddy's buddy is selling one of these Zastava rifles and of course, not having bought a .22 in 50+ years (other than a .22 Cooey single shot and a rifle for my son), I've no idea about these. Any thoughts? Thanks brent

Can't help you on that one, I don't believe they are imported into the US.

Brent,
I cannot help with the Zastava but I can suggest the CZ rifles. I have a bolt 22 CZ (Model 452 I think) and it is quite accurate and I like that it is similar in dimensions to my big game rifles. I believe the Zastava is made in Serbia and the CZ in Czech Republic.
I don't have but would like to own a Ruger bolt 22 mag but for now I am satisfied with the CZ in non mag 22.

CZ makes some nice rimfire rifles, they have a decent following here in the US.

Thought I posted on this thread already but look at a Henry lever action. Life is short and it shoots those too. Made by Americans.

I'm kinda set on a 5 shot bolt action. Probably should have said that up front. (For us Canadians, Henry's still an import ) Brent

Cz 452 hb varmint comes with 5 round mags but can also get 10 if needed. I can hold 1inch at 100 yds with mine, only thing needed was a trigger kit to make it lighter, as i like sub 2lb.

Thanks for the input. Just noticed a Savage MkII in one of the local stores with an updated trigger system of some sort that folks think highly of. Its a good $150 cheaper than the Zastava. Not sure which way I'm going to go. Its not like I'm gonna get another 50 years out of the gun, and I generally only run about one or two boxes a year through the .22 these days, mostly at the range or coons/woodchucks/other varmints around the property. I do like the sound of 1" at 100 yds. My old Savage 6 (and I) could almost do that 45 years ago; not so much for either of us any more. Must give some more thought to that Zastava. brent

Brent, the Savage rimfire rifles are made in Canada, if that matters to you.

I too have a HB Savage thumbhole in .17HMR. Mine will stay within 1" @ 100yds from the bench if I do my part and the wind is not up. Hard to beat for the money. (nice trigger too)..........Don in SC

With the ammo issues we have endured the past year, I am moving away from semi autos, especially in 22's. There was a time when my Ruger 10-22 with a 25 rnd mag was my favorite rimfire blaster.
Now, I think Lever actions and bolt actions are what interests me now. In fact, I have been researching old single shot rimfires....sort of like stepping back in time when our granddads, had a single shot and a box of ammo was a big investment to feed the family with. I am also looking back in time and finding myself mostly interested in iron sights, peep or regular.
I think the various CZ, Savage and Ruger bolt actions would make for a nice set up. Remember the old Remington 581 bolt action 22? you could convert to single shot easy for a beginner. They were pretty good old guns and accurate too. Another vintage option would be their 572 Fieldmaster pump. I prefer the vintage pump version to the new one which has a comb that is too high for iron sights.
I have a Winchester 94-22 Lever Action 22 that was given to me about 40 years ago. Talk about a silky action. There might be a used one somewhere up there.
Good luck and post back what you buy.
My next 22 will likely be a Remington 572 Pump, and old one. They cycle everything from Longs Rifles to Shorts, perfectly.
