Hit my local pond Monday morning as the remnants of tropical storm Nate arrived here in NJ. Just some rain and moderate wind. Started with my 3 wt and caught a number of yellow perch and a few sunnies. Last on was a 13” largemouth but that’s not what I came to write about.

Switched over to UL spinning with a Texas rigged finesse worm and a 1/16 oz bullet weight. First cast and a 2# largemouth was on making me wish I hadn’t left the net in the car but it was a good sign. Fishing the point and then the dam I ended up with 10 nice sized LMB, the biggest being 2.8#, and no dinks. The bite was on and a little rain wasn’t going to spoil the fun.

A true fisherman is like a mailman, he fishes in any kind of weather: rain, sleet, snow, hail, etc. Nice bass!

Hit the pond again for a little late afternoon fishing on a cloudy, 60° day. The 3 wt just didn’t draw any strikes (very unusual) so I switched over to UL spin again and landed these three beauties. They didn’t come easy but I’m grateful for them.

Lost a nice one due to a break off. My hook felt like it was caught in a well known deep snag. Gave it a tug and the 4# snapped then moments later a largemouth comes shooting to the surface, mouth wide open, shaking its head, trying to lose the hook. I’m guessing it was hanging out by the snag when it took the hook and I had him pinned but I misread the situation.
