I fished/lived in Destin while working there for a year; fished every day before/after work.
My favorite spot was the East Jetty, from 3/4 to the end and the fishing was great.
Did not use a fly rod though. My set up was a Abu Garcia bait caster with the winder taken off
so I could use in manual mode, 7 ft medium action long handled
fresh water rod. Using manual retrieve I could cast longer and my reels never broke down (the retrieve mechanism
it the only thing that breaks in my experience).
The only lure I used was a 3/8 oz Jig with soft plastic shrimp tails.

Often, before I would step on the Jetty, I would cast on the inlet side and catch flounder.

A fly rod on the East Jetty would be difficult with the wind.

All things being equal, the same since 1992, be careful walking the jetty as the rocks are slippery.
I used boots.

A little late posting But caught several on an 8wt... as well as my ul spinning rig with spoons. Best bait was a sand flea on my ul spinning rig.....caught way too many fish...good memories. Thanks for all the info guys. It was an awesome vacation. Pompano, spanish mackerel, and something that spooled my ul rig...lost that battle but it was awesome.
