Has anyone ever tried using a fly reel on a spin rod? Did it work?

I've dabbled for spawning crappie with a UL spinning reel on a fly rod, but I never saw the need to put a fly reel on a spinning rod. What am I missing?

For several years now I've been a user of combination rods, generally built on fly rod blanks with something like a "Tennessee handle". One that I'm working on now is built on an Aventik 6'7" 3-weight blank with silicon nitride guides (like Torzite, but from Proof Fly Fishing) and a modified Ritz grip.

If you use the search feature of this forum with the key words "tadpole rod" and "Tennessee handle" you can find a lot of information.

I do the EXACT SAME THING, Jim. It works well!

The crappie hate it, though. :lol

For those who wonder why put a spinning reel on a fly rod for crappie, feeling the very gentle take of a crappie is easier on a fly rod which is much more sensitive than a spinning rod or a casting rod.
