I won a Tenkara USA Sato rod. Haven't had time to do anything other than take it out of the package.

Anyone fish still water with these? I'll be trying to raise bluegill with it, once I figure out how to rig, cast, etc..

IF I figure out how to...

Looks like a 'just add water' kit. After you hear the first "zzzzzzzzzzzt, zzzzzzzzzt" you'll be hooked.

Where in Ohio are you, Ron? I'm originally from Lake County.

I plan to take my Tenkara rod to a pond in the near future, so far I've only fished in a little bit in a creek. Should be okay pond fishing for gills.

Richland County, but do get straight North occasionally. 'Strummer' implies stringed instruments. Uke?

Fishing for bluegills on still water w. tenkara is a blast. Start out the "normal" tenkara way and then expand to longer floating tenkara lines. Tenkara teaches you a lot about how to fight a fish. I've caught sizeable smallmouth on them.

Of all the fishes that I go after the Bluegill ranks at the top for the table.
Other than stocker Trout in the 8-12" range, best LMBB was ~14", SMBB ~12". Am on a quest for Native Ohio small stream fishes.
Tube fly, BTW.
Cheers,
R

Just got that tube fly adapter J. Stockard gave away recently. Can you post pics of your flies?

Tried to post using Tinypic, won't work. Anyhow, I use Drug Mart brand Q-tips, note color, and a snug fit wire in my vise as a mandrel.
Carefully (!) heat the open ends with a Bic lighter until they bulge and press insert on the mandrel.
If I figure how to post pics other than Tinypic, I'll re-edit.
Cheers,
R

If not, then a close hybrid. Was close to 9", SWAG. Lots of 'em in this pond.

I own two Tenkara USA rods, a 12' "Yamame" and 12' "Iwana". I use them both for trout fishing. Last Friday I caught a very nice brace of wild browns on my Yamame from a local limestone spring creek. Love it! The drag free drifts are amazing. I plan to use the "Iwana" during the Trico hatches this summer!
