Yeah, that's right. See that picture at the top of your screen? The one with the trout and the Elkhorn rod. Yep, that's it. I needed a longer 3wt, and I have had the Redington CT, which was a nice rod, but this Elkhorn 8'6" 3wt is flippin' incredible. For a rod that's 8'6" and being a med/fast rod, it's the Traveler by the way, it has more feel and flex than I thought it would have. When hooked up to a feisty brown this rod just performs. I got the last one too, and not only that, but the guy took a little off the price, along with a free hat, SCORE!!!!
So I took it fishing, and I have to say the wind was kicking up, and I had a 4wt line on my reel because he said it would handle a 4wt line fine, but it didn't do very well in the wind, and the 4wt line just bogged it down a bit. Hey, 3wts and wind just don't usually get along anyway. But after changing over to a 3wt line on a different reel, this rod did better. Much easier to cast. But the wind would catch my line in mid air and do unmentionable things to it. But in between the strong gusts, I couldn't be happier.
I did manage to catch a few, and I can't wait to get it out again on the water.
