Hello! I am new to the page! I’ve only been fly fishing for the past year and would say I picked it up pretty quick. A few months in I got a new rod,3 wt butterstick, it’s awesome I love it. Im from nj and tend to fish really tight streams with really small fish. I was thinking about getting a 1wt rod, I see a lot on the market for really high prices, and still being in college don’t have the money to spend like that. I was curious if someone has any suggestions for a decent quality true 1 wt at a decent price, I’m not opposed to buying a used one but can’t rest find any online. Thanks in advance

A decent quality true 1wt? Look for an inexpensive 0wt - Maxcatch, RDP, etc. If you want a longer (8ft+) true 1wt, be ready to pony up the dollas.

I was looking at the max catch rods, are they any good, I hear good things but I am skeptical.

I have a 6' 1wt Maxcatch. It fishes best with a 2 wt line. Its fine - not a Loomis or a Scott, but casts as well (but not as far) as my 7' Cortland CRX and 7.5' Redington Pursuit that cost twice (or more) as much (my only other ultralight rods). Can't comment on their 0wt, but I'm guessing it likely is truly a1 wt. brent

The 6ft 1wt Maxcatch would be a good start,I know two people using them.

Another Vote for the Maxcatch. Nothing comes close for the $ and it's actually lighter on the scales than many other "1wts". The Ultralight series is nice but look at the V-Light. They use the same blank but the V light uses a cork insert reels eat to save about 1/3 oz. I own several of both (The entire series of 1-3 actually) I have a spare 1wt ultra Light with spare tip and tube (unfished) that I'd give you a deal on if your still looking. hth
