I noticed that one of my foundational web resources for UL fly and spin fishing -- byrdultrafly.com -- was down and so I did a little digging. It seems like Bill passed away this spring:

I only knew him through his writings but my deepest condolences to his friends and family.

If you haven't perused the large volume of UL fly fishing resources that Bill created you can still do so through an archived version of his page. There is much to learn there, and plenty on UL shooting too if that is your sort of thing. On that note, I'm going to load up the boat and the 1wt, lengthen my leader, and go fish some dropoffs...just as Bill intended.

After reading Byrd's articles that I bought my first sub 3 weight. I even bought a Hexagraph 3 weight after reading several of his articles. Check out the site!
